American Doughnut Kitchen is a donut stand operating out of Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne, Australia. They serve the donuts out of a 1950s era bus, though I’m not sure if they’re actually mobile or if they just park it there permanently. The donuts look absolutely nothing like any American donut, so who knows where they came up with their name. They don’t have holes so I’m not even sure if they qualify as donuts. They’re more like jam-filled beignets than anything. It’s like if I called my restaurant Japanese Sushi Kitchen and then served Filet-O-Fishes. Name aside though, it’s hard to go wrong with a bag filled with jam-filled sugar-coated fried dough puffs, though they are a little more on the doughy side and not as light and airy as I would’ve preferred.

Tips: Get a coffee to wash down the doughnuts. They’re doughy and filled with jam and can be a bit much on their own.
