If you’re unaware, the biggest food trend in SoCal right now is poke. It makes sense, since it’s basically sushi but easier and cheaper. Why pay for high quality sushi-grade fish when you can buy mediocre to horrible fish and just dress it up with sauce? I actually love the stuff, it’s just annoying that every other new restaurant that opens up is a poke restaurant.
North Shore Poke Co. is pretty much exactly what you’d expect from a poke place, since every poke place is exactly what you’d expect from a poke place. You get some rice in a plastic bowl thingie, a selection of raw fish salad to go on top of the rice, and, uh, that’s about it. It’s good, it’s just the same as every other poke place I’ve ever been to. If you’re expecting anything more, you’ve probably never had poke before. Technically all these poke places have different names and owners, but I doubt you’d be able to tell the difference in a blind taste test. They might as well get together and change all their names to Pokedonalds. Get it? Like McDonald’s but with poke. Because they’re all so similar, see? Don’t worry if you didn’t get it. I’m a professional word writer person.
