I want to shake the hand of the genius that decided to take a sandwich and replace the bread with waffles. Located in Old Town Orange, Bruxie is a popular waffle shack right next to Chapman University that serves savory and sweet waffles, both of which they do amazingly. From their website:
Bruxië is a new take on the authentic Belgium Waffle. The “Bruxië” is unlike any waffle offered: the Bruxië is light, crisp, yeasty and not sweet. It’s street food that’s perfect for breakfast, lunch, mid day snack as well as a dessert or late night treat.
If you live near Orange County and have never been to Bruxie, what’s wrong with you? Do you hate delicious sandwiches? Do you hate waffles? If you answered yes to any of those questions then your parents failed you. And also we can’t be friends. There can be a bit of a wait and sometimes the outdoor seating gets a little tight, but the workers are super friendly and the food will make you happy. Unless you’re some sort of pancake Nazi or something. In which case high five, because pancakes are awesome, but also you’re missing out on some seriously good waffles.
Root Beer Float – Root beer and ice cream. Pretty straightforward.
BBQ Pulled Pork Waffle Sandwich – Other than pulled pork, I have no idea what they put in here, but if you told me it was pixie dust I’d probably believe you because this thing is magical. The pork is juicy and tender, the slaw is light and refreshing, and the BBQ sauce brings it all together in some magical waffley dance in my mouth. I’m not sure why it’s seasonal though. What kind of customer are they catering to that only eats pulled pork during a specific time of the year?
Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Waffle (chili honey and cole slaw) – Chicken and waffles but in sandwich form. You can even add maple syrup for an extra dollar. I’ve had chicken and waffles more than a few times and never have I thought to put them together into a waffle sandwich. So simple, yet so brilliant. Damn you, Bruxie, for being more clever than I. Now put your food into my mouth. I said put it!
