Blue Mediterranean Cafe is a little Lebanese place in Newport Beach and I’d recommend it if you’re looking for a quick Middle Eastern fix. I love the crap out of gyro sandwiches, so it took a ton of will power for me to skip over it and order the chicken tawouk instead. I’m glad I did though, since everybody seems to love the chicken tawouk and I’d have to agree. It’s clearly not the fanciest place in Orange County, but as quick Lebanese food goes, you really can’t go wrong here. And, hey, maybe by your standards this is the fanciest place in Orange County. Who am I to judge? If your idea of a fancy date is a trip to Burger King, then maybe this place will wow your socks off. Heck, wait until an anniversary or birthday before bringing the old lady here. I don’t know, man. I don’t know!
Gyro Salad – Gyro meat on green leafy things. Pretty self explanatory, me thinks. My friend ordered this (since I obviously don’t order salads) and since I don’t recall her spitting anything out I’m going to assume she liked it.
Chicken Kabab (Tawouk) (grilled marinated chicken breast, rice, hummus, garden salad, garlic spread, and pita bread) – About as good as any other chicken kabab dish I’ve ever had. Although I’m about as unsophisticated as you can get when it comes to Mediterranean food. Give me a plate with some meat and hummus and I’ll declare your dish a Mediterranean masterpiece.
