Located in Orange, Anepalco’s Cafe is a little hole in the wall specializing in Mexican brunch, and it’s one of those charming little places you can’t help but love. I rarely do this, but I’m going to do you a favor and save you some time. You can look at the menu if you want, but you’re ordering the Anepalco’ Chilaquiles. Trust me. Whatever else they have on the menu doesn’t matter. If this is your first time here you’re ordering the Anepalco’ Chilaquiles. And then you’re thanking me. Because holy damn is it good.
Anepalco’ Chilaquiles (tortilla chips, scrambled eggs, cotija cheese, sour cream, avocado mousse, pico de gallo) – This is one of the best Mexican brunch dishes that I’ve had in recent memory. Chilaquiles is a traditional Mexican dish made from tortilla chips and eggs and then topped with salsa or mole, and man does Anepalco’s Cafe do it splendidly. If you want to see a grown man moan, hand me a plate of this stuff and then give me a fork. Or rub my back while while blowing in my ear. Either or, but one of those is way less creepy.
Huevos Divorciados (green and red sauces, tortillas, ham, bacon, eggs, red onion, avocado, cotija cheese, sour cream, cilantro) – Similar ingredients to the chilaquiles but not quite as good. The flavors and sauces are similar, but they’ve added some bacon and ham and replaced the crushed tortilla chips with regular tortilla chips. You’d think adding meat would only make the dish better, but there’s something about the chilaquiles that just works over this. Don’t get me wrong, the Huevos Divorciados is delicious, the chilaquiles is just better.
