Located across the street from The Playground, the recently opened 4th Street Market is the newest and largest attempt to revitalize Downtown Santa Ana’s urban area into a cultural destination. The former Santa Ana Swap Meet now features a 30,000 square foot marketplace featuring over a dozen artisinal eateries. It’s basically a circular hallway of food and drink vendors, with plenty of seating and an outdoor area with matching street art (that’s code for graffiti). I came early enough to beat the lunch crowd and ended up trying three different shops (one of them being Portola Coffee Lab). Everything is a bit on the expensive side, but that’s just part of the package when you let hipsters invade your city and conduct business. It’s only a matter of time before this place is sporting a barber shop and a store selling handcrafted soap.
