I’ve never come across a churro I didn’t buy, so when I walked by The Funnel House in Huntington Beach and saw their giant sign that said “Authentic Handmade Churros” of course I got one. And after finishing it, all I have to say is Disneyland is still the reigning king of churros. Which is crazy, since churros aren’t even their business. Their business is roller coasters and souvenir plush toys. You’d think a bakery dedicated entirely to fried goods would be able to compete with a stupid little cart inside a stupid little theme park, but you’d be wrong. Their cinnamon sugar mix isn’t quite right and the churros themselves lack that perfect crunchy-yet-chewy texture. Yeah, it’s a churro so I’ll still eat one (or four), but the quest to find a decent competitor to Disneyland continues. Looking back, this place is called The Funnel House, so I probably should’ve gotten a funnel cake. But their stupid sign didn’t say “Authentic Handmade Funnel Cake,” it said “Authentic Handmade Churros.” I blame them for this. I blame them for everything. Also, I should clarify the churro was actually pretty good, just not in comparison to Disneyland’s.
