Proud Mary isn’t really in Melbourne proper. It’s nestled in a business district in nearby Collingwood, but it’s also super delicious and worth the trek out. Apparently they started out as one of the first cool warehouse style cafes in Melbourne, and now they’re a coffee empire that supplies wholesale coffee beans to other cool places. They also produce award winning baristas and I mean that literally. As in baristas that have come through here have won awards. At barista competitions. Which I guess is a thing.

$21.5 AUD Potato Hash (cold smoked bacon, two poached eggs, kale, bagna cauda)
Proud Mary might be known for their coffee, but they should also be known for their potato hash. This thing is ridiculous. Perfectly crisped hash browns complemented with delicious slabs of bacon and bagna cauda. I don’t even know what bagna cauda is, but if it plays any part in why this thing is so good then I want more of it. Is it the name of the sauce? Is it the name of one of the greens? A quick Google search could probably answer these questions, but I’m obviously too busy and important to bother with that.

Proud Mary has grown to the point where they’re opening a location in Portland, which is essentially America’s Melbourne. And they deserve every bit of success that they get. I’m posting this over a year since my trip to Australia and it still stands out in my memory, so that should tell you how highly I think of this place. I don’t know if it’s the best coffee in Melbourne, but it’s definitely up there and it’s arguably the best brekkie (that’s Australian for breakfast in case you couldn’t crack the code).
