Thousand year old egg with tofu – This is the good stuff, baby. Mmm…
I normally come to this place to binge on the beef noodle soup, but I decided to go the Taiwanese breakfast route this time. Irvine has its fill of Taiwanese restaurants, but there are few as established and reliable as A&J. A place so rooted in tradition you can see the workers making their potstickers by hand, without gloves, in the customer dining area, at one of the dining tables, with a pile of raw meat on the table.
Although I know the things I like, I can’t actually read any Chinese so I rely on my peers to be the middlemen for me. Lord help me if one day they decide to trick me and order some sort of poo-filled intestine*. Not that I wouldn’t eat it, I’d just be a little confused and ask them why my scallion pancake tastes like poo.
*NOTE: There’s not actually a poo-filled intestine dish. Are you insane?

Cucumber…dish? – I’m sure there’s an official name, I just have no idea what it is.

Youtiao (also known as Chinese Cruller) – Dip these bad boys in soy milk. Do it.

Jiaozi (also known as pot stickers)

Thousand layer pancake

Beef…pancakes? – I don’t actually know what these are called either. Honestly, I don’t know what any of these dishes are called. But they sound sort of right, don’t they?

The inside of said beef pancake.
