Verve Coffee Roasters is a trendy coffee shop located in downtown Los Angeles. Parking is horrible, but that can be said about everywhere in Los Angeles. What can’t be said about everywhere in Los Angeles is that they’ve got a magnificent space. And that’s where Verve stands out. It has a nice open area with plenty of table space, as well as an outdoor patio area if you like being outside. They’ve also got free working Wi-Fi, as well as a bunch of other unemployed people sitting around so you won’t feel like a complete loser. In fact, I’m writing this review from Verve as we speak. Hello, guy with a mustache reading a book in the corner. How do you do, mister thick-rimmed glasses who’s probably working on his screenplay? I’d say the drinks are only slightly above average, but the work environment makes up for any shortcomings.
$5.50 Mocha
I opted out of the whip cream to maintain my sexy figure, but took the chocolate sprinkles because the barista said, and I quote, “They’re the best.” They were nicely sweetened, adding just a little extra flavor to the mocha which was already pretty good, though a little light and maybe more similar to a chocolate milk than an espresso beverage.
$12 (plus $4 to turn it into a shake) Chocolate Fix (alkaline water, almond, cashew, hazelnut, date, cacao powder)
The first thing we have to address here is the price. Sixteen dollars?! I’m assuming this thing is super good for you (as all things this overpriced should be) but $16 is insane. The original tasted like banana-flavored soap water, but became quite a bit more palatable with the shake base because it ended up tasting like a banana mocha. Based on the price and flavor, if this thing doesn’t make me drop a waist size or two while give me huge muscles I’ll be extremely disappointed. In future news, I’m extremely disappointed.
